About Grappa
since 1999
Grappa is a Leichhardt landmark, celebrated for timeless food and old-world hospitality. Shaped by the Calabrian spirit of generosity, Grappa began in 1999, when Charlie and his father Antonio opened the doors on the “wrong end” of Norton Street. Inspired by their love of cooking and the simple pleasure of connecting with others over a meal, they set out to create a place where everyone could feel at home and part of the family.

More than 25 years on, Charlie now leads the restaurant alongside his wife Virginie and their two daughters, carrying forward a family tradition grounded in Italian hospitality, a deep respect for quality produce, and the joy of bringing people together around the table.
The name Grappa is a tribute to Charlie’s father, whose love of Italian wine and spirits meant no meal ever ended without a round poured for the table.
Today, Charlie and his family continue that ritual, offering every guest a grappa at the end of their meal — a tribute to his father and a celebration of true Italian hospitality.
